As the newest member of this growing community, I should probably make an introductory post:

My wife and I are expecting our first child in October. A couple weeks before the end of her maternity leave I’ll be leaving my job to be a stay-at-home dad. I’ll still be doing some work, but it will be freelance jobs that I can do from home while raising the kid (and eventually kids).

SInce we’re still a few months away from the due date I don’t have much else to say at the moment, just that it’s nice to find a community of like-minded parents.

I was/am a graphic designer
I thought when we moved from Charleston, SC to Pittsburgh, PA that when I began to stay at home with our son, I would be able to do work on the side while he slept and in the evenings. I also thought I would be able to get handyman work done around the house...

Maybe if you are far more organized and energetic than I am you may be able to do two jobs at once: rearing a child and making money; but it was very very hard for me. I decided to concentrate on the children.

Re: I was/am a graphic designer
I admit it may be wishful thinking, but I'd like to at least get some occasional video editing work in. But we're planning our budget as if I won't be bringing in any money, so anything I do contribute will be a bonus, and I'm not getting my hopes up so high that they'll be crushed if this turns into taking a break career-wise. My family is always going to be my first priority, and anything else will be nice if it works out.

If nothing else, I can always keep in practice shooting and editing video of the kids.
